        When I judge speakers, I only care about how they sound. Price is irrelevant, and the badge on the front means nothing to me. I have a pair of custom-built speakers that are now 20 years old, and in this time, I have never found their equal. Because they're getting a bit old now, I decided a while back to start looking for other speakers. I listened to some really expensive speakers, and some medium-priced ones, and even a few rather inexpensive ones, but nothing came close. When I saw the Teufels on the internet, I immediately had high hopes for them, as they use similar design principles as my treasured custom-builds. Never having even listened to them, I bought them purely based on that, and it turns out I was right - they sound truly amazing. They have a level of effortless clarity and detail that speakers 10x their price can't compare with, and the bass (depending on your amp settings) can be either rowdy and loud (like with dance music, heavy metal or pop) or smooth and detailed (like with new age, indie, world or folk). If I had to rate my custom-builds, I'd give them a 19/20 overall score, the Teufels a solid 18/20, and all the other other speakers I've listened to over the past year or so, below 15 (and we're talking speakers that range from £500-£3500). My favourite track on these Teufels is Mike Oldfield, Return to Ommadawn on vinyl. Absolutely stunning.
